MARTA Public Meetings

MARTA is preparing to cut service significantly due to their ongoing financial distress.

Two out of three Emory service routes are slated to be discontinued:
  • #36 route, serving stops along N. Decatur Road
  • #245 Blue Flyer serving stops along Clifton Road.
The #6 route, serving stops along Clifton Road, N. Decatur and Briarcliff Roads, is slated to discontinue service to Inman Park Station in favor of North Avenue Station.

Other route changes may also affect other transit providers such as GRTA, Xpress, and CCT. More information here...

MARTA Service Cuts May Impact Emory campus

From Dr. Beverly Scott, GM & CEO of MARTA -

"MARTA is facing major financial challenges for FY 2011 and future years. Given the magnitude of the projected shortfall for the upcoming year and beyond, MARTA has no choice but to seriously prepare for significant transit service cuts and additional fare increases – along with continued depletion of the Authority’s quickly dwindling remaining reserves..."

The service cuts referenced by Dr Scott will impact MARTA service through the Clifton Corridor and the Emory campus unless ways can be found to avoid them. MARTA is conducting surveys and holding public meetings to get input from transit riders and stakeholders.

Next Public Meeting:
March 8, 2010

Held at Senior Connections, 5238 Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341

"Information on MARTA’s overall fiscal challenges, legislative requests, potential MARTA service cuts and fare increase alternatives are being presented and reviewed at these meetings. As importantly, we are utilizing this opportunity to ask for community input before MARTA staff finalize FY 2011 Budget recommendations to the MARTA Board. A copy of the information that was presented at the February 6th meeting may be accessed on MARTA’s website at www.itsmarta.com."
